ameO
Memo
To: Mike Infurna Project: 14143.000 Task 5
From: Mari Gilmore
Tel: (510) 663-4163 ✓'3,/
Fax: (510) 663-4141
Date: 8/24/09
Subject: Workplan to Destroy Soil Vapor Probes at Tracy Railyard Site
On behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company (Chevron), AMEC Geomatrix
plans to destroy 5 soil vapor probes at the Tracy Railyard site(located at 61' St. and Central
Ave. in Tracy, CA) on August 27th, 2009. The soil vapor probes are constructed of 2 nested
probes (with 0.25" diameter polyethylene tubing)to 5 feet below ground surface (bgs) and 10
feet bgs, respectively. One foot of clean Monterey sand surrounds each probe at 5 and 10 feet
bgs, with the remainder of the annular space filled with hydrated bentonite granules. The probes
were installed using a 3"- diameter hand auger.
The probes will be destroyed by drilling out the annular materials and tubing using a 4.5'
diameter solid-flight auger to the total depth of 10 feet. The solid augers will drill out the
bentonite, tubing, sand, etc. and bring everything up to the surface as cuttings. All drill cuttings
will be properly stored in 55-gallon drums to be removed by Chevron. The borings will be
destroyed by using Portland Type 1/11 neat cement grout, placed from total depth (10 feet)to 3
feet bgs using a tremie pipe. The top 3 feet will be filled with hydrated bentonite granules to
ground surface. Please contact the undersigned with any questions.
Sincerely yours,
AMEC Geomatrix, Inc.
Mari Gilmore
Project Geologist
Direct Tel.: 510-663-4163
Direct Fax: 510-663-4141
E-mail: mari.gilmore@amec.com
is\project\14000\14143.000\5000 investigation\permits\memo soil vapor probe destruction.doc
AMEC Geomatrix,Inc.
2101 Webster Street,12th Floor
Oakland,California
USA 94612-3066
Tel (510)663-4100
Fax (510)663-4141
www.amecgeomatrixinc.com
