1
' 01 November 2005
AGE-NC Project No 02-0950
' • Boring B6 was advanced to a total depth of 35 feet bsg, approximately 52 feet north of
monitoring well MW-3
' 2 1 2 Soil and Grab Ground Water Sample Collection and Analysis
' Samples were collected from borings B5 and B6 at discreet 5-foot intervals, from 5 feet bsg to the
total depth of the borings, using a 1 25-inch Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with four
6-inch brass sleeves All sampling equipment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed twice
' with water prior to each sampling run For each soil sample collected, both ends of the second sleeve
were covered with Teflon sheets, capped, and sealed with tape The samples were then labeled,
' stored on ice, and transported under chain of custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories
(CTEL), a State of California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified analytical laboratory
in Paramount, California Selected samples were analyzed for
I • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d,
respectively) in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified, and
I • * Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) and the fuel oxygenates 1,2-
dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) in accordance with EPA Method
I8260B
Ground water was encountered at approximately 19 feet bsg, a grab ground water sample was
collected at 30 feet bsg in boring B5 and 25 feet bsg in boring B6 The ground water samples were
collected using a Geoprobe water sampling assembly with a pre-cleaned, 1-inch diameter 0 01-inch
slotted polyvinylchloride(PVC)screen Each sample was extracted by lowering a Teflon hose-bailer
Ithrough the hollow center of the push rods into the screened section Ground water samples were
transferred into four laboratory-supplied, 40-milliliter (ml) volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials
containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid solution as a sample preservative, and into one 1-liter
' amber bottle without preservative After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed on ice,
and transported under chain of custody to CTEL for analysis The samples were analyzed for the
' petroleum hydrocarbon products listed above
2 13 Soil Logging
After sample preservation, soil was extruded from the remaining sleeves and field-screened utilizing
I an organic vapor analyzer (OVA) equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo
Environmental 580B, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene) The soil was also described visually in
. accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) Soil boring logs exhibiting soil
IAdvanced GeoEnviranmental,Inc
