Y <br /> tanks, The investigation involved 10 soil borings below and <br /> adjacent to the backfill material (Figure 4) . <br /> Since the proposed work involved disturbance of the subsoil, <br /> Underground Services Alert was asked to notify local <br /> utilities of our intentions to do work at the site. The <br /> following utility companies inspected the site: <br /> • MCI <br /> i <br /> • City of Stockton <br /> • Pacific Gas and Electric <br /> • Pacific Telephone <br /> US Sprint <br /> • Continental Cable, and <br /> ICalifornia Water Service. <br /> i <br /> None of these companies reported underground utility lines at <br /> the site, <br /> T <br /> �rR <br /> SOIL SAMPLING INVESTIGATION <br /> Ten soil borings were made around the perimeter of the former <br /> r excavation in order to obtain a preliminary assessment of the <br /> horizontal and vertical extent of the contamination (Figure <br /> 4) . Three, locations (Borings 3, 6, and 9) were selected in <br /> j areas of known contamination to determine the vertical extent <br /> r of contamination. Seven other sampling locations were <br /> z selected around the pez•imeter to provide a preliminary <br /> assessment of the horizontal extent of contamination. <br /> W Borings were drilled using a truck-mounted drilling rig <br /> equipped with continuous flight augers. All drilling and <br /> i <br /> sampling equipment was steam cleaned prior to drilling each <br /> boring to prevent contamination between borings. Borings <br /> were logged in accordance with the.
