The bore holes will be logged
according to the Unified Soil Classification System. The completed
wells will be developed, sampled, and surveyed in order to determine
groundwater gradients. Soil and groundwater samples will be
analyzed for Benzene, Toluene, Xylenes, and Ethylbenzene (BTX&E)
- by EPA Methods 8020 and 602, respectively, and Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as Diesel (TPH-D)by EPA Method 8015, modified.
i
Three soil borings will be installed at the locations shown in Figure 2-
2. Boring # 1 will be drilled up gradient from the former tank
locations in order to provide background groundwater quality data for
the site. Borings # 2 and 3 will be drilled down gradient from the
former tank locations in order to intercept any groundwater that may
have been affected by the contents of the former tanks.1 A 2"
monitoring well will later be constructed in each of the completed
borings. All borings will be installed using a mobile track mounted
drill rig using hollow stem augers. The soils from the borings will be
logged according to the Unified Soil Classification System (Appendix
B). The drilling logs will be based on information obtained from drill
cuttings, actual soil samples, and changes in drilling
— 1 The proposed placement of these borings is in accordance with the criteria
outlined in the RCRA Ground Mier Moyalorine Technical Enforcement_
Guidance Do ent,U.S EPA,September, 1986.
2-2
