'M aV4
All
Drill cuttings will be stock piled on the ground unless evidence of
contamination is observed during drilling. Any contaminated
cuttings will be contained in drums at the site until analytical results
are completed. At this time the drummed cuttings will be treated
and/or disposed of in accordance with applicable State and local
regulations,
,b
A typical monitoring well design is shown in Appendix G. The well
bore will be drilled with a mobile drill rig using hollow stem augers.
The well bore will be drilled an estimated 45 to 50 feet deep. The
screan and casing will be inserted into the well bore. Filter pack
sand will be poured into the annular space around the screen as the
augers are removed. The filter pack will extend one to two feet above
the top of the screen. One to two feet of bentonite pellets will be placed
on top of the filter pack. The remaining annular space will be
grouted to the surface and a stove pipe riser with a locking lid will be
x set directly into the grout.
will be 2-inch diameter, schedule 40, slotted PVC,
The length of the screen will be 10 feet. It will be capped on the
r bottom with a threaded cap. It will be flush-threaded to the casing
above.
The slot size for the screen will be either 0.010 or 0.020 inches
depending on the particular size range of the screened formation (in
accordance with the proposed ASTM standards for monitoring well
construction). An estimation of the formation grain sizes will be
based on the soil boring logs.
The well casinrt will be 2-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC. It will be
flush threaded to the screen below and capped with a slip cap on top
and a threaded cap on the bottom.
- Tng filter pack will be clean #30 silica sand. This sand size is
compatible with both 0.010 and 0.020 inch slotted screen (in
accordance with the proposed ASTM monitoring well standards).
The well seal will be made with bentonite pellets placed immediately
on top of the filter pack. The remainder of the annular space will be
filled with grout using a tremie .
Thr, grout mix will comply with the standards recommended in
"Water Well Standards", California Department of Water Resources
Bulletin 74-90,January, 1990.
2-B
