29 January 1999 <br /> AGE-NC Project No. 98-0536 <br /> Page 3 of 5 <br /> interim remediation, the excavation will be backfilled with clean fill material_ <br /> The proposed scope of work will include the following tasks: <br /> • Pre-field work activities; <br /> • Soil excavation and backfilling; <br /> • Soil sample collection and analysis; <br /> • Soil stockpile characterization; and <br /> • Report preparation. <br /> Each of these tasks is described in greater detail below. <br /> 3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES <br /> A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health <br /> Guidance Alanual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety <br /> and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). <br /> Prior to mobilization, the area of excavation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained <br /> through Underground Service Alert. <br /> 3.2. SOIL EXCAVATION <br /> Approximately 100 cubic yards of soil will be removed from the floor and side walls of the <br /> excavation area and stockpiled adjacent to the excavation. <br /> During excavation activities, excavated soil will be screened for volatile organic compounds using <br /> an organic vapor monitor (OVM). Excavated soil that appears visibly stained or has a petroleum <br /> hydrocarbon odor will be considered impacted. <br /> 3.3. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS <br /> A total of up to 10 soil samples will be collected from the excavation and will be submitted for <br /> laboratory analysis.
