We have recommended to Mr. Patten that he taken a soil
sample for organic lead, adjacent to the former location of an underground fuel tank.
The tanks in question were removed in 1986, however the question of elevated levels of
lead were brought up by your department. I have discussed this site with Harlan Knoll,
who was involved with this site at one time. Harlan indicated that if a single boring
adjacent to the fuel tank site was made to a depth of 23 feet and tests for lead indicated
no organic lead to be present, we could then put this matter to rest. This property is
currently in escrow and this is the only stipulation the seller has left to satisfy the
buyer. We have included a well permit application with the appropriate fees.
Our hope is that one of your staff could observe the sampling. We could be
ready to sample at any time that you're available. Please let us know the earliest
possible date we could sample. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Sincerely,
Steven J. Furnas, REA
WHF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANTS, INC.
SJF:dmc
' Enclosure
