f
r
1.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The purpose of this work plan is to outline and describe the methodology to be followed for
drilling and sampling of three soil borings at the SME site on Shaw Road. The proposed scope
of work for this project includes the following tasks:
i
1. Develop a program work plan and worker health and safety plan for the site assessment
investigation.
2. Three exploratory soil borings will be drilled and sampled at the site. These soil borings
will be placed to verify the vertical and horizontal extent of petroleum hydrocarbon
contaminated soil at the site related to the former 10,000 gallon UST. It is anticipated
that two of soil borings located outside the former UST excavation will be advanced to
first encountered groundwater. These soil borings will be placed in locations to
supplement existing subsurface information immediately adjacent to the location of the
former UST. The third soil boring will be drilled adjacent to the location of SBI and
within the former UST pit. This soil boring will extend vertically to within five feet of
the first groundwater surface but not extend into the groundwater.
I
The three soil borings will provide infill information to define the horizontal and vertical
extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon soil contamination plume remaining under the
former UST site and to collect groundwater.grab samples to determine if the first water
bearing zone has been impacted by petroleum hydrocarbon contamination. This effort
will also determine if TPH-d concentrations from excavated soil determined to have
elevated TPH-d concentrations in 1,999 have had any attenuation.
Soil samples will be collected at five foot intervals from the borings and screened with a
calibrated field photoionization devices (PID)to determine possible.petroleum
hydrocarbon content. An onsite geologist will log the soil borings and guide the site
i
placement of the soil borings.
Mai\l)\Environmcotal9STElWorkplan%WorkplanI 1192007.wpk 2
1
l
t
I
I
