This contract includes a provision for technical support by the
California Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB).
PHS/EHD has recently received a letter from the CVRWQCB that provides guidance on how to
analyze for the oxygenated compounds in gasoline until a "definitive protocol" can be
established. Based on this letter, PHSIEHD is directing you to analyze samples from all of
your monitoring wells for Tertiary Butyl Alcohol (TBA), Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE), Di-
isopropyl ether(DIPE), Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (ETRE) and Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether
(TAME) by EPA method 8260. PHS/EHD will require analysis of samples for Methanol and
Ethanol where there is reason to believe that these compounds were stored in the underground
tank(s).
PHSIEHD requires quarterly sampling of all wells where the presence of oxygenates is
confirmed by EPA method 8260. Modification of this required sampling such as number of wells
sampled, sampling frequency and method of analysis may be granted only after initial sample
results are reviewed by PHSIEHD. Any modification of the required sampling must have
PHSJEHD approval prior to implementation.
For additional information please call your LOP contact.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Margaret Lagorio, REHS
LOP Supervisor
encl.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
