I have omitted some of the plates & exhibits, but have
included summaries of laboratory results, gradient maps, etc. A
copy of the latest quarterly monitoring event will be forwarded
to you when finished.
As 1 discussed in our meeting, the purpose of surveying and
sampling the wells on your property is two fold; (1 ) measure
water levels on the same date by the same firm using the same
field protocol, and (2) obtain water samples & analyze for BTEX &
TPH-G to see if the plume identified on the Canteen site has
migrated to those wells.
Groundwater gradient data obtained to date at Canteen Corp- has
been consistently to the south/southwest. However, gradient data
as measured in US Chemical wells have been divergent, with no
apparent prevalent direction. PLATE VI in the attached report
shows the variations in the gradients. This may be due to
differences in sampling times, field techniques, discontinuity of
the aquifers, or unknown causes. Sampling Canteen & US Chemical
wells at the same time by the same person will allow a more
accurate evaluation of those differences.
Obtaining water samples for analysis from both sets of wells will
assist us in estimating the lateral extent of the plume. If your
wells do not measure any gasoline compounds, (BTEX & TPH-G) , then
it can be assumed that we have established a "zero" line in that
direction. If the wells show evidence of contamination, then
other options can be considered. We will not test for any other
compounds besides those listed above.
1
