Mike Infurna [EH].
From: Scott Ranalli [SRanalli@deltaenv.com]
Sent: Thursday, May 08, 2008 9:10'AM
To: Mike Infurna [EH] j
Cc: Eric Muehlberger
Subject: FW: Formet Canteen site
Importance:-High
Hello Mike,
I am forwarding a recent e-mail exchange between you and Eric (see below). No doubt that
we have "old man memory" x 3 at work here, so it's'good that we have these written copies of
what we say to help refresh...
The-i.m.p.ression I get from your responses below is that you wanted a discussion of,whherre e7
were,at and where weneed to go. I believe we covered tllat very well in our Workplan' At
this juncture,o plan-is todelineate in a few areas,especially-at'deeper(to 85 feet bgs)
intervals, to help decide our next step:
Sail Bonn' .9_Es: O_u.r SVE concentrations continue to ,get lower and are currently at less than 2 j

ppmv. To confirm that soil-i`;'cleanan.d/or two find any depths where residual sorbed-phase
HCs are present, we h va ehproposed, two soil borings. One is near the MW-3 wells (south end
of site) and one is near the MW-13 wells (former tank field).
k
Monitor Wells: As is stands, the deeper completion wells seem to have the highest
remaining HC concentrations. Weare currently leaning towards augmenting the existing AS-
SVE System with deeper AS,wells to 85 feet. Based upon the CAP and pilot testing, the
current AS.wells were only installed to 60-ft bgs. There may be two factors at play here:
1. The 60-ft AS wells may have pushed HC concentrations deeper.
2. The preferential reduction of toluene and xylenes concentrations (as opposed to
benzene) indicates depleted 02 in the deeper GW. .
Each new MW area will have one medium well to 65 feet bgs and one deeper well to 85 feet
bgs. We want to look at'two areas:
I. [The area between,the..MW-3,,and..MW-- 3 series welIs.has.-never_been_sampled..j We want
to confirm whether or not there are residual HCs in this area which are feeding the
continuing concentrations in the MW-3 wells. In addition, these wells may be utilized as
AS or injection wells, as necessary.
2. The area on-the other side (down-gradient) of the Lane Masters property. We need to
gauge whether or not there are oxygenates down-gradient of well MW-11 {which is in
the north end of Lane Master's). I understand that this was.actually your request to Eric
at some point.
As I said, we areleariing'towards-adding deep.,AS to the existing_sy_stem,.though oxidants or
5/8/2008
