These tanks have been
cleaned and disposed of properly. Since then, there were four more tanks decommissioned.
These tanks held corrosive liquids including sodium hypochlorite, Sodium Hydroxide, and
Hydrochloric Acid (see table 1, below).
The tanks were no longer needed and were decommissioned by Thatcher Chemical personnel
by cleaning with water until rinse and surface pH inside the tanks was above 2 and less than
12.5. The tanks were then cut into pieces, these pieces were placed on one or more pallets (as
shown in Table 1) and held for tank closure certification, prior to disposal. The rinsate from
the tank cleaning was collected and evaluated with respect to hazardous waste criteria prior to
disposal.
Table I - Tank Summary
Tank# Tank Contents Description # of Pallet# # pH Measured
Pallets samples pH range
Tank A Diatomaceous Earth Post Filter I A I-I (5) per 7-8
Tank pallet
Tank B Sodium Hydroxide Post Filter 3 BI-1-3 (5) per 7-8
Tank pallet
Tank C Hydrochloric Acid Post Filter 10 CI-1-10 (5) per 7-8
Tank pallet
Tank D Sodium Hypochlorite Post Filter 5 DI-1-5 (5) per 7-8
Tank pallet
Figure I (below) shows the tank pieces, stored pallets
T 408.548.5050 967 Mabury Road:,San Jose,CA 95133 Page I of 10 ..
F 408.548.5052 www.ACTenviro.com
