i <br /> i <br /> i <br /> iFIELD PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOLS <br /> AGE conducted the monitoring event in accordance with guidelines established by the RWQCB and <br /> ithe PHS-EHD <br /> GROUND WATER ELEVATION MONITORING <br /> On 09 May 2001, a Solmst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in <br /> ground water monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-3A, MW-3D, MW-4 through MW-13, <br /> MW-13A and MW-13B relative to the tops of the well casings Well casing elevations were <br /> provided by Applied Earth Sciences Groundwater elevation in each well was determined from these <br /> I data (Table 1) Ground water elevation contours are illustrated on Figure 1 <br /> IWELL PURGING <br /> On 10 May 2001, the monitoring wells were purged of standing water by utilizing a down-hole <br /> pump The down-hole pump was decontaminated prior to insertion in each well as described below <br /> Approximately 5 to 85 gallons of water were removed from each of the wells (a minimum of 3 <br /> casing-water volumes per well) Ground watei temperature, pH and conductivity were measured at <br /> regular purge-volume intervals using Oakton and Hydac water analyzers Field sheets and data are <br /> included in Appendix A Purged water was stored on-site in labeled, 55-gallon DOT-approved <br /> drums <br /> SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS <br /> Water samples were collected fiom each purged well using new disposable plastic bailers These pre- <br /> cleaned bailers are disposed of after one use, thereby minimizing cross contamination due to <br /> sampling devices The samples were drawn and collected in such a manner that agitation and <br /> exposure of the groundwater to the atmosphere was minimal Sample containers were filled using <br /> the appropriate disposable sampling attachment which allows controlled flow out of the bottom of <br /> the bailer A sample was also collected from the third decontamination water stage for quality <br /> Icontrol/quality assurance <br /> Each water sample was transferred into 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid <br /> as a sample preservative After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled <br /> containei and transported under chain-of-custody to McCa.mpbell Analytical, Inc (MAI), a State of <br /> California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified analytical laboratory The samples were <br /> Advanced GeoEnvaroxnuental,Itic <br />
