IPilot Test/TreatibdityAnalysis Proposal
Former Canteen Corporation Property
1500 Shaw Road
Stockton, California
I
Applied Earth Sciences, Inc (AES) has prepared this proposal for the performance of a soil vapor
extraction (SVE) / in-situ air sparging (IAS) pilot study, aquifer pumping test, and treatibility
analysis at the referenced site As part of the Problem Assessment Report (PAR), AES evaluated
fourteen remediation technologies according to their performance, reliability, and applicability to
the site-specific conditions Three of the fourteen technologies screened were deemed feasible for
remediation of both the impacted soil and groundwater at the site These technologies included In-
Sxtu Air Sparging, In-Situ Well Aeration, and Enhanced Bioremediation
AES also recommends that a sensitive receptor survey be conducted to identify exposure pathways
and any potential human and ecological receptors
I
1.0. SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work includes the performance of an 8-hour SVE pilot test, a 72-hour IAS pilot test,
a 24-hour aquifer pumping test, and collection of soil and groundwater samples for treatibility
analyses The pilot tests/treatibility analysts will be used to determine the most cost-effective
remediation alternative(s) for the Canteen Facility Following evaluation of the pilot test/treatibility
data, an estimate of the duration of the clean up time can be provided and the costs for system
implementation and operation and maintenance can be finalized
Three wells will be installed in the vicinity of the former tankpit for the SVE/1AS pilot testing One
two-inch diameter VES monitor point well will be installed in the vadose zone with a screen section
extending from approximately 10 to 40 feet below ground surface (bgs) One four-inch diameter
VES test well will be installed in the vadose zone with a screen section extending from
approximately 5 to 40 feet bgs (top of the water table) One two-inch diameter IAS test well will
be installed with a 5-foot screen section set approximately 5 to 7 feet below the water table
Samples will be collected from one of the borings for BTEX and TPH analyses to assess the current
concentrations in the source area Additional samples will be collected from this boring for
treatibility analyses
' Characteristics that will be evaluated from the pilot testing data include vadose zone gas
permeability, groundwater flow rate, radial influence of the spargmg well, aquifer permeability and
heterogeneities, and contaminant volatility and solubility Characteristics that will be evaluated from
Ithe treatibility data include organic content, pH, permeability, moisture content, nutrient level, and
redox potential
' Additionally, AES proposes to conduct a sensitive receptor survey to identify exposure pathways
• and potential human and ecological receptors
I
1
