16, February 13, 199$ REUEFNED
FEB 25 1998
Michael Infurna, Sr REHS nom, ENV1HONMEN SAL HEALTHSan Joaquin County PHS ` PERMIT/ PVEC
Environmental Health Division
P. 4. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Re 1997 Annual Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling Report, 1500 Shaw Road, Stockton,
CA, Site Code 1727, AES Project No. 145-94009-01
Dear Mr Infurna
This report summarizes the monitoring and sampling event conducted in 1997 Field
activities at the above referenced Canteen facility included the collectionn of fluid level
measurements from the eight monitor wells onsite (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-3A, MW-4,
MW-5, MW-6, and MW-7) and the five offsite monitor wells (MW-8, MW-9, MW-10, MW-11,
and MW-12) on the former U S Chemical property (Figure 1)
Based on the groundwater elevations, the groundwater gradient was 0 16 feet per 100 feet
and the general direction of groundwater flow was to the south. Fluid level measurements are
summarized in Table 1 and the Potentiometric Surface Map is included as Figure 1. Historical
) groundwater data are summarized in Table 2. Copies of the field data sheets and water
measurement data are included in Appendix A.
Free product was not detected in any of the wells, nor has it ever been The groundwater
elevation was approximately six feet lower during the last monitoring event (10-10-97) than
during the previous gauging (07/03/97) The groundwater elevation for the latest event was
comparable to the August 1995 event.
Recommendations It is recommended that the oxygen release compound (4RC) socks in
monitor wells MW-2 and MW-3A be removed and that two quarterly gauging and sampling events
be conducted. This would allow a more representative ground water sample to be obtained from
MW-3A
Sincerely,
nvw e h J-
Connie Choate
Applied Earth Sciences, Inc gED Gf-nocf
WILL 4,'i NJ+C,
Wil a nter 19 NU
C f is Registered Geologist No 860 oFct•t
q ,O
2833 Trinity Square, Suite 149 o Carrollton, Texas 75006 Tel (972) 416-7171 Fax (972) 416-7175
