•
began leaking, or (3) the original size of the plume had extended
offsite to the northeast, & has migrated to the southeast in the
direction of groundwater flow. This latter scenario is supported
by the lines of equal elevation maps as shown on PLATES XII &
XIII_
July. 1994 - WJH submitted a workplan for placing three (3)
additional wells on the property to further define the extent and
direction of the plume; a copy of that workplan is included as
1FTMMIX E. The locations of those three wells, identified as
MW-5, MW-6, & MW-7, are shown on PLATE V_
August. 1994 - The fourth quarterly sampling was performed, which
continued to show a hydraulic gradient to the southwest, with
MW-3 having the highest levels.
DETAILS OF WORK EMEQRMED UNDE THE 49LY, 1994 WORKPLAN -
PLACEMENT OFTHREE_ M_ ADDITIONAL GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS;
August 2,2. 1994 - Wm. J. Hunter, RG, arrived on location at 0810
hours, and after meeting with Marc Paschini of Canteen Corp. , the
locations of the three wells were marked according to the work-
plan- At 0820, Spectrum Exploration auger rig & support truck
arrived on location, & mobilized over location MW-5. The driller
was Van Leonard, & the helper was Brad Lovell. The rig was
equipped with 5' lengths of 10 1/4" OD hollow stem augers; there
were enough clean flights to complete each well without decontam-
inating. Sampling equipment consisted of a conventional 18"
California modified split--spoon core barrel designed to hold 2"
diameter metal tubes.
After reviewing the workplan & safety procedures, drilling
commenced at 0915. Don Light of Del.-Tech Geotechnical arrived at
0930, & calibrated a Thermodyne 580B PID meter for use in
screening samples. A sample of drill cuttings from 20 ' was
collected & placed in a sealed plastic bag to allow any volatile
gases to escape. After setting for 5-10 minutes, the probe of
the PID meter was inserted into the bag, & the meter turned on -
it read aero. The augers were advanced to 30' , and another sam-
ple was taken; it was bagged & tested in the same manner. The
reading again was zero.
At a depth of 40' , the drill plug was pulled, and a clean core
barrel, filled with new, 2" x 6" brass tubes, was lowered into
the augers, and driven from 40' to 41 ' 6" with a drive hammer.
Blow counts, core recovery, description of the lithology, & other
details are given on EXHIBIT XIV. The core was thoroughly
examined & described by the geologist; one of the tubes was
•
promptly sealed with teflon tape & plastic end caps, the ends
wrapped with duct tape, and the tube labeled and placed on ice-
5
