cleaned before drilling begins and between each boring to prevent the introduction of off-site
contamination and cross contamination between borings. Sampling equipment shall be cleaned
between sampling events by steam cleaning or using a phosphate-free detergent bath and double
rinse to prevent cross contamination. Pre-cleaned brass liners shall be placed in the sampler to retain
the soil. The drilling and sampling equipment shall be steam-cleaned subsequent to completion of
the exploratory drilling.
A field engineer will observe drilling operations and prepare a detailed log of each boring. Soil
samples will be obtained at three to five foot intervals. The samples will be retained in 2-inch
diameter pre-cleaned brass liners. The soil samples shall be immediately sealed in the liners using
teflon sheets, plastic caps, and tape. Labels indicating the date, time and sampling location shall
be affixed to each sample. The samples shall be stored on ice and transported under proper chain-
of-custody to a state-certified analytical laboratory.
Soil cuttings generated during drilling will be placed in 55-gallon containers, which will remain the
responsibility of the owner. The drums shall be labeled. At the owner's request, the drums and their
contents shall be removed with appropriate sampling, testing and documentation.
Soil Probes: Four soil probes shall be conducted in the approximate locations shown on Figure 2.
A hand auger will be used to help retrieve soil samples from the undisturbed soil at the bottom and
sides of excavation. Soil samples will be collected in 6-inch by 2-inch diameter brass liners. The
liners will be sealed using teflon sheets, plastic end caps, and plastic tape. Labels indicating the
date, time, and sampling location will be affixed to each sample. The samples shall be stored on ice
and transported under proper chain-of-custody to a state-certified analytical laboratory.
3
