APPENDIX C-2: UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVALS <br /> APPENDIX C-3 <br /> UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVALSIVAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEM <br /> INSTALLATIONS <br /> Precautions <br /> 1 Ignition sources must be eliminated <br /> 2 Designate the work area as a no smoking area <br /> 3 Use pneumatic/nonsparkmg tools when appropriate <br /> 4 Define the work area with barricades, hazard tape, cones or other means <br /> 5 Contact local underground utility locating service Check location of all utilities including water and <br /> sewer <br /> 6 Wear Level D PPE hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed and shank boots, and traffic vest Have <br /> respiratory protection at hand This applies to all on-site personnel including subcontractors <br /> 7 Perform air monitoring with an oxygen/exploslmeter and an organic vapor analyzer at frequent <br /> • intervals <br /> 8 Monitor LEL and organic vapors frequently in area during work Note LEL measurements taken <br /> in oxygen deficient atmospheres (e g , in merted tanks) will not be accurate <br /> 9 Notify the Project Manager immediately and document situation if a co-contractor will not follow site <br /> specific safety protocols The Project Manager must inform the client <br />
