Vine Street
Lodi, CA 95240
Re: Tokay High School, Ceramics Classroom; CAM 17 Metals Final Report
Dear Ms. Jill Davis:
This report presents results of the CAM 17 Metals bulk sampling conducted by Entek Consulting Group,
Inc. (Entek) on November 4, 2020 in the ceramics classroom at Tokay High School. The sampling was
requested by Ms. Jill Davis, Risk Management Worker's Compensation Claims Analyst with Maintenance
& Operations at Lodi Unified School District (LUSD) following an inspection by a San Joaquin County
Inspector who had concerns with multiple unlabeled bags of powder and multiple trash cans filled with
what appeared to be clay like material. These powders were used to make ceramics and were
accumulated over the years by the ceramics instructor. Entek arrived and met with Ms. Davis to gain
access to the site.
After reviewing the classroom Entek located a desk in the back of the ceramics classroom with 10 large
pull out drawers that all contained one unlabeled bag of powder except for drawer number 6, which was
empty. The top of the desk was also used as storage for other materials. The following materials were
found on top of the desk:
• One unlabeled plastic container with pink clay like material
• One unlabeled plastic container with tan clay like material
• One Bag of powder labeled Pfizer Minerals Pigment
• One Bag of powder with hand written label titled bone ash
• One Bag of powder labeled Calcium Carbonate
• One Bag of powder labeled Nepheline Syenite
The ceramics classroom also contained uncovered plastic garbage cans filled with tan and pink clay like
material. This clay like material appeared to waste form previous ceramics projects.
Entek collected 17 bulk samples of unlabeled materials inside the ceramics classroom at Tokay High
school. The samples were submitted to Enthalpy Laboratory located in Berkeley, California and analyzed
for Metals by EPA Method 6010B and EPA 7471A. Enthalpy is ELAP accredited for this analysis.
The following table identifies metals exceeding or have a high probability of exceeding the Department of
Toxic Substances (DTSC) Title 22 waste characterization thresholds and are all considered hazardous
waste. Metals which exceed the Total Threshold Limit Concentration (TTLC) and or having a high
probability of exceeding Soluble Threshold Limit Concentration (STLC) are identified in red. For a list of
materials found to be below the TTLC and STLC please refer to the table found in the attachments of this
report.
ASBESTOS LEAD MOLD INDOOR AIR QUALITY SILICA TRAINING SAFETY AUDITS
