filter pack). Vertical positioning of the well screen will be determined from
direct observations of the continuous core relative to permeable granular
aquifer materials.
Where an entire well cluster is scheduled for replacement (i.e., the PW24
cluster), a single pilot borehole will be drilled. A continuous core sample
will be collected as previously described for each preselected screen
interval based on the current PW24 well logs.
All of the pilot borehole drill cuttings returned to the surface will be
stockpiled on plastic sheeting or within a plastic lined mudpit for
disbursement or disposal pending receipt of the stockpiled soil analytical
results. The pilot boreholes will be abandoned by bentonite grout slung
tremmied up from the bottom to the top of the borehole.
o As suggested by Mr. Gene Dworzanski of Glenn Springs Holdings, Inc.
and discussed during the 1995 Annual Program Meeting, stainless steel,
V-shaped, wire screens will be used rather than the low carbon steel
screens proposed in the workplan.
o After well intake designing has been completed for all of the scheduled
replacement wells, the well installations will be performed as originally
proposed in the workplan. The only change will be that appropriately sized
transitional sand will be placed above the predesigned filter pack sand
prior to the placement of the bentonite seal.
o As built drawing and specifications of the replacement wells will be
provided in the next available Semi-Annual Report following completion of
the wells. Uthologic materials description borehole log will accompany
each of the as built well drawing and specification figures.
I trust that these responses adequately address your concerns and meet with your
approval. Should you have any additional questions or comments regarding this matter
please do not hesitate to call me at (209) 983-6810.
Sincerely,
T'rre/aTek-CRA Company
Robert T. Siegfried, , CEG
Project Geologist
cc: G. Oworzanski E. Friedrich
A.C. Ying
