Nichter
Operations Manager
Special Environmental Programs
Occidental Chemical Corporation
P.O. Box 728
Niagara Falls, New York 14302-0728
PROPOSAL TO REPLACE EXTRACTION WELL EW-4, OCCIDENTAL CHEMICAL
CORPORATION, LATHROP, CALIFORNIA
We are in receipt of your letter dated 3 January 1996 proposing the subject EW-4 replacement. I
have discussed the matter with Mr. Erik Friedrich of TreaTek and he has agreed to some additional
details not found in the written proposal. Those details are to increase the borehole diameter to 14
inches, using centralizers during construction of the well, and attempting to use a PVC -wrapped
screen instead of the regular slotted PVC screen. The latter is contingent on locating a source of the
wrapped screen and the availability of the screen. The reason for requesting the screen change is to
increase the efficiency of the well since there is a considerable more open area on the wrapped-
screen than the slotted screen.
We have discussed this matter with Mr. Tom Dahl of the United States Environmental Protection
Agency and Mr. Marvin Woods of the Department of Toxic Substances Control and we have their
concurrence with this response.
If you have any question regarding this matter, please call me at (916) 255-3025.
AX41'1r 9
ALEXANDER MA ONALD
Program Coordinator
cc: Mr. Tom Dahl, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Denver
Mr. Marvin Woods, Department of Toxic Substances Control, Sacramento
Mr. Erik Friedrich, TreaTek-CRA Company, Stockton A
bbl
' Yv a
