Simplot Company
16777 Howland Road
Lathrop, CA 95330
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has recently reviewed files
for the above referenced site. The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) has taken
an active role in overseeing Site Assessment and Corrective Action at this site as it relates to soil and groundwater
contamination from fertilizer and pesticide manufacturing.
PHS/EHD has information in our files that documents an unauthorized release of petroleum hydrocarbon (gasoline
and diesel) from two 10,000 gallon underground storage tanks (UST's) removed May 23, 1988. PHS/EHD has a
Problem Assessment Report (PAR) on file that indicates both soil and groundwater has been impacted by the release
(PAR prepared by Weston July 27, 1989).
The former tank field where the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination has been identified is centrally located within
the Simplot facility. This area is surrounded by remedial activity within your agency's jurisdiction.
Due to the ongoing large scale remediation already in place at Simplot, the UST's assessment and cleanup is being
referred to the CVRWQCB for oversight.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter contact, Harlin Knoll, REHS, at (209) 468-3442.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Harlin Knoll, Senior REHS
Site Mitigation Unit
c: J.R.
