Mr. Timothy VanDomelen - 2 - 17 August 2009
J.R. Simplot, Lathrop
investigation. Collection of soil samples is necessary in order to estimate the remaining
residual mass of petroleum constituents in soil.
2. Given the residual concentrations of TPHg and benzene in groundwater at MW-2, further
investigation to define the extent of pollution from the UST release is warranted. In
addition, the monitoring network will need to be augmented. Regular monitoring will
need to be conducted to demonstrate that concentrations of petroleum constituents are
declining. With sufficient monitoring, you should be able to predict when concentrations
will reach the Water Quality Objectives for each constituent. Therefore, please prepare a
Work Plan for the collection of soil and groundwater samples to delineate lateral and
vertical extent of petroleum impacts in the area of the former USTs by 17 October 2009.
3. Please research with San Joaquin County any records of survey data to confirm the
location of well MW-1 and to ensure that J.R. Simplot can satisfy the County's
requirements for locating and, if possible, properly abandoning the well.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (916) 464-1588, or via email at
kdominic@waterboards.ca.gov.
Kathryn L.
