SIMPLOT
COMPANY, 1677 HOWLAND ROAD, LATHROP, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
At the request of J.R. Simplot and AMEC/Geomatrix, California Regional Water Quality
Control Board, Central Valley Region (Regional Water Board) staff has created this letter to
clarify the requirements of Monitoring and Reporting Program (MRP) No. R5-2008-0388,
issued 5 November 2008.
Table 1 of the MRP presents the list of chemical constituents and monitoring parameters that
are required to be included in sampling and monitoring activities. Although Table 1 is explicit
about the required frequency of monitoring for the listed parameters in groundwater, the
frequencies of monitoring for the leachate collection and recovery system, the Class II surface
impoundments, the storm water surface impoundment, and the unsaturated zone need to be
specified individually. In order to clarify the requirements, the following list specifies
frequencies of monitoring and which parameters from Table 1 of the MRP should be included
in each sampling and monitoring event.
Leachate Monitoring
Monitoring Parameters (sulfate, nitrate, chloride, ammonia, and total dissolved solids) -
quarterly
General Minerals (carbonate, bicarbonate, potassium, phosphate, calcium, sodium, total
alkalinity, and pH) - annually
Results reported semiannually
California Environmental Protection Agency,
Rcr,led MI/Icr
