2.3 Description of the Monitoring Wells To Be Replaced
The locations of the monitoring well clusters are shown on Figure 2. Six
(PW8-150, PW9-119, PW19-88, PW24-50, PW24-148 and PW24-190) of the ten
monitoring wells that are scheduled for replacement over the next two years are
located west of the J.R. Simplot property, while the rest are located within the J.R.
Simplot boundary.
Each of the original wells was constructed with a three foot silt trap at the
bottom followed by a five foot section of 0.060 slot, low carbon, shaped, wire
screen followed by a 6 5/8-inch diameter, #12 gage, blank steel casing to the
surface. Each well was constructed in 12-inch diameter boreholes. The well's
filter pack, consisting of No. 21 gravel, was installed from the bottom of the
borehole to a height of two to four feet above the screened section in the annular
space. The remaining annular space to the surface was filled with a cement/grout
mixture. The surface completion of each well consisted of a 12-inch diameter
protective conductor casing and a concrete surface seal. Well completion
specifications are provided in Table 1 and copies of the drilling contractor's well
installation reports are presented for reference in Appendix A.
4
