SECTION 1
GENERAL INFORMATION AND CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS
1. 0 Introduction
The general scope of work consists of the construction, development
and performance testing of two groundwater extraction wells. The
extraction wells will be installed for the Occidental Chemical
Corporation' s Lathrop Groundwater Remedial Program located on
property currently owned by the J.R. Simplot Company near Lathrop,
California (Figures 1 and 2) . The extraction wells will be
designated EW-6 and EW-7 .
The two extraction wells are being installed to accelerate the
groundwater cleanup progress of the remedial program. The two new
wells, which will supplement five existing extraction wells, have
been sited from a review of groundwater monitoring data. Because
it is the intent for the wells to draw from certain hydrogeologic
zones, the wells will be constructed with screen locations within
certain target zones. The actual screen depths will be located
within the zones per the results of geophysical logging.
For the purposes of the remedial program, the aquifer is divided
into three zones. The "shallow" zone extends from 31' to 83 ' the
"intermediate" zone ranges from 84 ' to 1501 , and the deep zone
extends from 151 ' to 2181 .
Well EW-6 will be constructed with two screened sections, one in
the intermediate and one in the deep zone. Well EW-7 will be
constructed with the screens only in the deep zone.
1. 1 Site Conditions
The well sites (shown on Figures 2 , 3 and 4) are located in open
field areas, with only fencing causing potential access restric-
tion. Access during the summer months is good. Access becomes
problematic during the rainy season due to traction problems
encountered on wet dirt roads. Subsurface conditions consist of
alternating layers of sand, clay and gravels. Drillers logs from
previously installed wells are presented in Appendix B. Groundwa-
ter will probably be encountered at approximately 15 feet below
ground surface.
This information regarding sub-surface conditions is intended to
assist the Contractor in preparing his bid. However, WESTON does
not guarantee either its accuracy or that it is necessarily
indicative of conditions to be encountered in drilling the wells
described below. The Contractor shall satisfy himself regarding
all local conditions affecting his work by personal investigation.
Neither the information contained in this section, nor that derived
from maps, plans or WESTON shall act to relieve the Contractor from
any responsibility for fulfilling any and all of the terms and
requirements of this request for quotation (RFQ) .
1 - 1
