Item No .
PC : 10-8-87
SA-88-7
Page 4
inspector must be on the premises when the facility is in
operation. It is the livestock meat inspector ' s responsibility
to ensure that the processing and labeling of products meet
State requirements . The meat inspector may be an employee of
the custom slaughterhouse . In addition, the State requires
that a log be kept that documents all animals killed at the
facility. A copy of the log entries is sent to the State
Department of Food and Agriculture on a monthly basis.
Odor :
If operated in a proper manner, the slaughterhouse is not
expected to create odor problems for adjacent properties . The
waste water from the washdown of the facilities must pass
through a 1600-gallon grease trap prior to reaching the eva-
poration pond on the project site.
FACILITIES/SERVICES :
The custom slaughterhouse proposes to utilize an existing private
well for water supply and a septic system for sewage disposal .
The Local Health District is requiring a cross-connection control
device on the water well to protect it against contamination and
back-siphonage. In addition, a new septic system, isolated the
proper distance from the water, will be required. The Department
of Public Works notes that a portion of the site is located
within a flood hazard area, and the entire site is subject to
shallow sheet-flow flooding of approximately one foot in depth.
As a result , it will be necessary to bank the evaporation pond
higher than the 100-year flood depth.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS :
An Initial Study was prepared on August 12 , 1987 , and no signifi-
cant environmental effects were identified. Based on the Initial
Study, a Negative Declaration was prepared.
