C\T:ATC
ASS0 C I ATE S INC ,
conducted using a field organic vapor monitoring instrument approved by the SJVUAPCD. If at any
time the results of laboratory analyses or field monitoring readings shove emission limits to be
exceeded, a confirmation air sample will be taken immediately and analyzed on a 24-hour turnaround
basis. If emission limits are shown to be exceeded, the system will be shut down and any necessary
corrective action will be performed before repeating the startup sequence. SJVUAPCD will be notified
that emission limits were exceeded within 24 hours of such indication.
The off-gas treatment system will be modified to an activated carbon adsorption system when the
hydrocarbon concentrations of extracted vapor from subsurface soil make it safe and cost-effective to
do so. Typical SJVUAPCD guidelines require that, extracted vapor influent to and effluent from the
carbon system will be monitored with a field instrument approved by the SJVUAPCD on a daily basis
until the frequency of carbon changeout can be evaluated. System monitoring frequency will likely be
changed to once every 2 weeks or monthly, with a field instrument and monthly verification with by
analytical laboratory testing upon receiving SJVUAPCD approval,
0.6 Systems Performance Evaluation
Following continued operation of the VES and air sparge system, a systems performance evaluation
will be conducted to monitor the effectiveness of the remediation systems, and a report will be issued
on a quarterly basis. This report may include the following: hours of operation; system influent and
effluent field monitoring readings, laboratory results of influent and effluent air samples; total and
individual vapor extraction well flow rates; total and individual air sparge well injection flow rates,
induced vacuum responses recorded in observation wells, all ether relevant field data collected.; and
results obtained such as observed radius of influence, system destruction efficiency, etc.
Recommendations will then be made to fin ther, optimize system performance and to further enhance
remediation of impacted soil and groundwater. Recommendations may include tie-in of additional
vapor extraction or air sparge wells to the remediation system, upgrading of the off-gas abatement unit,
etc.
w Xs2574.011CnP,por:d 13
