FERMIT/SERVICE$
23 January 1987
Mr. Ron Valinoti
San Joaquin Local Health District
Post Office Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
SAMPLE RESULTS FROM THE CARDOZA WELL, TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Enclosed for your information are copies of lab results from the Cardoza's
domestic water well . An EPA 601 (Halogenated Volatile Organics) and a standard
mineral analysis were run from samples collected on 7 November 1986.
Dichloromethane was detected in the samples from both the well and kitchen tap.
The levels range from 9-22 ppb. These values are below the State Action Level
of 40 ppb but well above the EPA established one-in-a-million cancer risk level
of .19 ppb.
Mrs . Cardoza was notified of the findings on 21 November 1986, the day the EPA
601 results arrived at our office. The family had been using bottled water
previous to my sampling and continues to use it for consumption.
Despite assurance from the laboratory that the dichloromethane detected was not
a lab contaminant, we feel it necessary to confirm this before taking further
action. Therefore, I will be collecting more samples from the subject site in
the near future. Two laboratories will be used and informed of the situation.
Depending on these results further action may be planned.
I will send you copies of the results when received. If you have any questions
regarding this matter, please call me at (916) 361-5667.
DAVID L.
