u <br /> i 20 August 2002 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 01-0827 <br /> Page 5 of 5 <br /> Prior to disposal,the hydrocarbon-impacted soil will be characterized by a DHS-certified laboratory <br /> After soil characterization,trucks will be utilized to transport the waste material for proper disposal <br /> The open excavation area will be surrounded by temporary fencing No AGE or subcontractor <br /> personnel will be allowed into any excavation greater than five feet bsg until proper excavation <br /> shonng and/or sloping techniques have been emplaced <br /> 42 SOIL SAMPLING PROCEDURES <br /> Soil samples collected from the base and sndewalls of the excavation will be obtained using the <br /> excavator Soil samples will be collected from the bucket of the excavating equipment with a metric <br /> soil sampling hammer and one 6-inch long by 2-inch diameter brass sleeve,from the excavated soil <br /> material The exposed ends of the sample sleeve will be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and <br /> sealed with tape <br /> • Soil samples will be collected from soil stockpiles by digging approximately one foot into the soil <br /> stockpile Soil samples will be collected by hand sampling methods using a stainless steel or carbon <br /> steel trowel, by pressing a metric soil sampling hammer and one 6-inch long by 2-inch diameter <br /> brass sleeve into the soil stockpile <br /> Following sample collection, each sample sleeve will be labeled with the boring location, depth, <br /> time,date and sampler's initials Appropriately scaled and labeled samples will be placed in a chilled <br /> container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a DHS-certified laboratory <br /> 4 3 EXCAVATION BACKFILLING PROCEDURES <br /> The excavation will be backfilled with clean fill sand and/or pea gravel mixtures The excavation <br /> will be backfilled and compacted in five-foot lifts <br /> 4 4 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION <br /> All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly washed with a solation of Alconox <br /> and rinsed with clean water prior to each sampling location <br /> Advanced GeoEnvnwrnentA Inc <br />
