Working To Restore Nature
5.0 ,PROPOSED SOIL AND GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION SYSTEMS
' The proposed soil and groundwater remediation systems will consist of combined vapor
extraction and groundwater extraction systems The systems will function as remedial measures
' for onsite hydrocarbon impacted soil and groundwater. Upon installation and operation of the
systems, the adequacy of the systems to remediate hydrocarbon impacted soil and groundwater
' to acceptable regulatory levels for closure will be reassessed. The installation of additional
vapor extraction wells or groundwater extraction wells may be necessary, depending on site-
' specific conditions The groundwater recovery equipment will lower the elevation of
groundwater to allow vapor extraction to act upon an increased soil horizon and to assist in
plume containment. Sufficient pumping should occur to provide adequate hydraulic control of
the dissolved hydrocarbon plume
5,1 Vapor Extraction System
' The proposed vapor extraction system (VES) will utilize existing vapor extraction wells, a
vacuum blower, and an off-gas abatement system to address the hydrocarbon impacted soil.
' The VES will be operated under similar conditions as the VET to achieve a similar estimated
tradius of influence for each well. The VES will be operated using individual wells or sets of
vapor wells in sequence, rather than operating all wells concurrently. This approach should
' minimize the size and inherent operating costs for the off-gas abatement unit, while still allowing
maximization of air flow from individual wells
The actual radius of influence for each vapor extraction well will vary depending on subsurface
geologic conditions, the extent and distribution of hydrocarbon-impacted soil, and site-specific
operating conditions of the VES The effective radius of influence should be evaluated following
' long-terra operation of the VES.
38009-8\38009-8 F" 11
