I <br /> I12 December 2006 <br /> • AGE-NC Project No 01-0827 <br />' Page 8 of 14 <br /> The samples were analyzed for <br /> I <br /> • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in <br />' accordance with EPA Method 8015M, and <br /> • Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), and the fuel oxygenated <br /> compounds tertiary butanol (TBA), di-Isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether <br />' (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), <br /> 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) by EPA Method 8260 <br /> 5 2 ADVANCEMENT OF SOIL PROBE BORING <br /> On 19 September 2006, four soil probe borings (CB 1 through CB4) were advanced north of the <br /> former UST excavation under EHD oversight The probe borings were advanced to a total depth of <br />' 30 feet bsg utilizing a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 direct-push probing unit equipped with 1 25-Inch <br /> diameter probing rods, the probing unit advances soil probe borings using a hydraulic hammer to <br /> drive soil and ground water sampling tools to specified depths <br /> I. <br /> 5 2 1 Soil Sample Collection <br />' Discrete soil samples were collected 5-foot intervals, beginning at 5 feet bsg� using the Geo robe <br />' push-driven 2-Inch diameter soil sampler fitted with four 6-inch long brass sleeves Soil samples <br /> were preserved by covering both ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping, and <br /> sealing with tape Each preserved sample sleeve was labeled with soil boring location, depth,time, <br />' date, and sampler's Initials and was stored in a chilled container under ice <br /> Soil encountered In the borings was visually classified on a boring log by an AGE geologist in <br />' accordance with the Unified Sall Classification System (USCS) Additionally, soil samples were <br /> field-screened for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an organic vapor meter(OVM) <br /> equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID Thermo Environmental 5 80, 10 0 eV,calibrated to <br />' Isobutylene), the concentration readings were recorded on the boring logs In Appendix C <br />' 5 2 2 Laboratory Analysis of Soil Samples <br /> The soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody procedures to CTEL and analyzed for <br />' TPH-g and TPH-d in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified, and <br />' Advanced GeaEnvironmentel,Inc <br />
