Work Plan-Soil and Groundwater Investigation <br /> CSUS—Multi-Campus Regional Center <br /> r June 21,2000 <br /> 1 Page-4- <br />` L Each soil sample will be cut from the liner at the selected depth-.for potential laboratory analyses. The <br /> soil samples will be retained, undisturbed, in the liners. The liners will be sealed at the ends with <br /> Teflon® sheeting, capped, wrapped with duct tape, and labeled. The samples will be stored in a-cooler <br /> chilled with ice and delivered under chain-of-custody procedures to Exelchem Environmental Labs of <br /> Roseville, California. The samples will be analyzed using U.S. EPA Methods and California-approved <br /> methods under quality assurance measures. m <br /> 3.4 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING <br /> If groundwater is encountered in the borings, one groundwater sample will be collected from each boring <br /> with the Geoprobe groundwater sampler. The sampler utilizes a sealed, water-tight, stainless steel <br /> sample chamber and PVC.screen which is isolated from the surrounding environment as the sampler is <br /> advanced. When the desired depth for collection of a groundwater sample is reached, the sample <br /> chamber is opened by pulling back on the body of the sampler and exposing the screen. When the screen <br /> P P g <br /> is full, a small diameter Teflon® bailer is lowered into the push rod and a groundwater sample is <br /> retrieved from the sample chamber. <br /> The groundwater will be gently emptied from the bailer with a bottom-emptying -device into the <br /> appropriate laboratory supplied containers. The sample containers will be sealed, labeled, and placed in <br /> a cooler chilled with ice for delivery under chain-of-custody procedures to Exelchem Environmental <br /> rLaboratories, Inc. of Roseville, California, for analyses. <br /> 3.5 LABORATORY ANALYSES <br /> The soil and groundwater samples collected from the borings will be analyzed for Methyl tertiary-Butyl <br /> Ether (MTBE), and benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020: <br /> The soil and groundwater samples will also be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as <br /> kerosene, diesel and motor oil by EPA Method 8015m. In addition, the groundwater sample collected <br /> from the boring proposed to be installed in the approximate center of the former-location of TK 10 will be <br /> analyzed for gasoline oxygenates/additives by EPA Method 8260B and for total lead by EPA Method <br /> 7420. The gasoline oxygenates/additives include Methyl tertiary-Butyl Ether(MTBE), Ethanol, tertiary- <br /> Butanol, Di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), Ethyl tertiary-Butyl Ether- (ETBE), tertiary-amyl Methyl Ether <br /> (TAME), 1,2-Dichloroethane (1,2-DCA); and Ethylene Dibromide (EDB): If MTBE is detected in <br /> n• <br /> LJ CONDOR <br />
