4-0 FINDINGS
The site investigation encountered contamination at all four study
areas. At the washpad, soil contamination appears to be limited to
the upper 6 feet. At both the downstream clarifier and the
discharge pit, soil contamination extends throughout the entire
depth (ten feet) investigated. Contamination was also detected in
the flightline catch basin sediment sample . Specific findings for
each study area are described in the following sections.
4.1 Washpad
Three, ten foot deep, hand augered borings were successfully
completed at the washpad. Apparent contamination based on odor and
dis-coloration was observed in the upper 3-4 feet of borings 1 and
2. Figure 5 (page 11 ) illustrates the boring locations .
A layer of dense hardpan was encountered at 5 . 5 feet in all three
borings . Soil above the hardpan was apparently fill imported for
site grading. Below the hardpan a dry, uncohesive sandy loam was
encountered. Washpad boring logs are presented in the appendix.
Analytical results from the m8015 (petroleum hydrocarbons) and 602
(purgeable aromatics) analyses are summarized in Table 1 . All
samples tested non-detectable for all 8270 (semi.-volatiles )
analyses with the exception of 1100 PPB Bis (2-Ethylhexyl)phthalate
detected in sample 1-1 . The detection limit for this compound is
1000 PPB. Original laboratory report forms, indicating minimum
detection limits for each parameter, are presented in the appendix.
TABLE 1
WASHPAD ANALYTICAL RESULTS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SAMPLE (PPM) (All BTXE values in PPB)
ID LOCATION TPH BENZENE TOLUENE XYLENE ETHYLBENZNE
1 -1 Boring 1 @ 2 ' 316 ND ND 40 ND
1 -2 Boring 1 @ 7 ' ND ND ND ND ND
1 -3 Boring 1 @ 10 ' ND ND ND ND ND
i
2-1 Boring 2 @ 2 ' ND ND ND 29 ND
2-2 Boring 2 @ 7 ' ND ND ND ND ND
2-3 Boring 2 @ 10 ' 234 ND ND ND ND
3-1 Boring 3 @ 2 ' ND ND ND ND ND
3-2 Boring 3 @ 7 ' ND ND ND ND ND
3-3 Boring 3 @ 10 ' ND ND ND ND ND
' 15
