The site code reported
on the original "Notice of Reimbursement" was an error. The replacement notice
showing the site code: 1481 is correct. PHSIEHD apologizes for this error.
PHSIEHD staff conducted a review of the shallow monitoring well depth to water data
from reports generated by the Nestle Company in Ripon. The data shows a
predominantly northern groundwater flow, away from the Stanislaus River, but also
shows some westerly and easterly flow components.
Because the over-excavation was successful in removing the impacted soil from the
site and based on this review, PHSIEHD recommends the installation of one
monitoring well to verify no impact to groundwater from the release. The well should
be placed to the north, and within ten feet of, the area where the deepest and highest
concentrations of soil contamination were observed during the over-excavation
activities. This placement should capture any groundwater contamination plume
resulting from the release, if any exists.
Once installed, this well must be monitored and sampled for at least two consecutive
quarters. Should two consecutive quarters of sampling indicate groundwater to be
free of contaminants from the releasb-frbm the former diesel tanks at this site, a
formal request for site closure can be submitted to this office. Should the sampling
indicate groundwater contamination resulting from the release from the former diesel
tanks at the site, additional groundwater investigation and monitoring will be
requested.
A (>> ki"n of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
