ARCADiS
Infrastructure-Water-Environment-Buildings
PUBLIC NOTICE
The preparation of this Fact Sheet was prepared on behalf of the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department (SJCEHD). SJCEHD invites public comment on a request for regulatory closure,
made on behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company, for the former leaking underground
storage tank (UST) site at 242 North Sutter Street, Stockton, San Joaquin County, California (the Site).
Subject Site: Chevron Service Station 9-8227
242 North Sutter Street, Stockton, California
GeoTracker Global ID#T0600770732
SJCEHD Case#9327
Public Comment Period: October 7, 2013 through December 7, 2013
Case Summary: This subject site is a former Chevron service station located in a mixed commercial and
residential area of Stockton, California, and is currently a vacant lot. Former service station facilities at the
site included five steel, single-walled, fuel underground storage tanks (USTs); one steel waste oil UST;
product line piping and pump islands, and station building. The USTs and associated piping were
removed in October 1988. The station building and pump islands were subsequently removed.
In an effort to evaluate and monitor both the nature and extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon release, and
its potential effect to human health, the environment, and water quality at the Site, multiple environmental
investigations were performed at the Site between 2000 through 2012. Currently, only minor petroleum
hydrocarbon concentrations remain; furthermore, given site conditions, the minor concentrations that
remain are expected to decrease without additional migration as the areal extent of the plume remains
stable.
A risk evaluation and groundwater monitoring data indicate that petroleum hydrocarbons remaining in soil
and groundwater in the vicinity of the Site are unlikely to pose a threat to human health or further affect
groundwater as they continue to decline through natural processes. It should be noted that groundwater
beneath the Site is not currently being used as a domestic water supply.
The SJCEHD submitted a Case Closure Summary to the RWQCB at the end of September 2013. The
RWQCB has yet to respond to this request. After receipt of notification that all case closure activities
have been completed, the SJCEHD intends to issue a No Further Action Required letter for the subject
site.
Where Do 1 Get More Information?
General information regarding the Site can be obtained from the GeoTracker web site at:
http://geotracker.waterboards.ca.gov, Upon written request, the Site case file is available for review at
the SJCEHD office located at 1868 East Hazelton Avenue in Stockton, California 95205.
