The wells were installed near the location of previous geoprobe borings'B'&'J*
and cone penetrometer test(CPT)boring CPT-2 to verify analytical results reported from
groundwater samples collected from the borings, and to model potential contaminant migration
pathways at the site, Well MW-4 intercepts first groundwater for investigation of the lateral extent
of the shallow groundwater contamination; MW-5 is a deep, discretely screened well for
investigation of the vertical extent of the groundwater contamination. The Report recommends that
the two new wells be surveyed for elevation. SJCIEHD agrees with this recommendation, please
proceed with having the new wells surveyed to an established benchmark by a licensed surveyor.
Sample analytical results reported from the earlier geoprobe and CPT borings had indicated soil
contamination extends to at least 40 feet below surface grade(bsg)in the northeast comer of the
site near MW-1 and to at least 30 feet bsg at the location of the new wells, and that groundwater
contamination extended to approximately 150 feet bsg near MWA and to 185 feet bsg near MW-5.
Sample analytical results reported from MW-5 over two quarters of groundwater monitoring and
sampling do not confirm the previously reported groundwater contamination. Results have been
non-detect for all constituents analyzed. Please proceed with submittal of a feasibility study for
remediation of the soil and groundwater contamination at this site. The study is due for submittal
no later than July 28,2006.
If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at(209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Lori'Duncan,Senior REHS Nuel C.
