JVM ASSOCIATES
• WKA No 1735 02
July 16, 1993
Page 2
temperature, pH, and conductivity readings stabilized and/or the water cleared of sediment The
water samples were then collected using a new polyethylene disposable bailer Water from the
disposable bailer was decanted into appropriate sample containers provided by the laboratory
The samples were immediately placed in an ice-chest with ice and submitted under chain-of-
custody to a California-certified laboratory for analysis of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH)
using EPA method 8015, and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Total Xylenes (BTEX) using
EPA method 602
The 3 1/2-inch diameter PVC bailer was cleaned prior to purging each well with a solution of
trisodium phosphate and distilled water to minimize the potential for cross-contamination All
water removed during sampling and purging operations was placed in sealed and labeled 55-
gallon drums and stored on site
No free product was observed in monitoring wells MW1 through MW3 Laboratory analytical
results for water samples obtained from MW1 revealed a TPH-gasoline concentration of 53 µgIf
However, Mr Joel Kiff, Senior Chemist at Western Environmental Science & Technology,
indicated that this is not typical gasoline possibly due to the diesel interference in the
chromatograph TPH as diesel and motor oil was detected in sample MW 1 at concentrations of
1100 µg/f and 460 µg/e, respectively Mr Kiff also indicated that a replicate of MW1 was
analyzed as part of the laboratory's quality control Analytical results of this replicate sample,
MW1-REP, revealed a TPH-diesel concentration of 810 µg/f and a TPH-motor oil concentration
of 480 ug/f
Analytical results for MW2 and MW3 revealed no detectable concentrations of TPH as gasoline
or BTEX However, TPH diesel was detected at concentrations of 72 Ag/f and 87 gglf in MW2
and MW3, respectively TPH-motor oil was also detected in MW2 and MW3 at concentrations
of 280 µgIf and 380 µg1f, respectively Laboratory analysis results for ground water samples
obtained from the three on-site monitoring wells are summarized in Table 1
ID
WALLACE XURL
Recy,kdPQIWT &ASSQCIAVES[KC
