Weber Ave., 3`d Flour
Stockton, California 95202
Subject: Work Plan for Abandonment of Monitoring Wells at the Former Union Ice
Facility, 425 North Union Street, Stockton - Site Code: 241434
Dear Ms. Duncan:
On behalf of the Union Ice Limited Partnership, the following work is proposed to abandon
the five (5) monitoring wells at the subject site in Stockton. The planned well abandonment is
the final step in site closure, following the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board's No-Further Action Letter of November 15, 1999. The field work for well
abandonment will be completed by Hal Hansen of Doulos Environmental, Inc. Mr. Hansen is
a registered geologist and holds a C-57 contractors license.
All five monitoring wells will be abandoned in place by pressure grouting with a neat cement
slurry. The cement slurry will be made by thoroughly mixing approximately 11 - 13 pounds
of type II Portland cement per gallon of clean water. The grout will be placed in the well with
a trimmie hose from the bottom of the well to the surface. The estimated volumes of grout
that will be required for each well are presented on Table 1. To calculate the grout volumes
presented on Table 1, the porosity of sand in the annular space of each well has been estimated
to be 32%.
TABLE 1
Well Casing Drilled Sounded Drilled Sand Calculated
No. Diameter Depth Depth Diameter Interval Grout Vol.
(inches) (ft) (ft) (inches) (ft-bgs) Req'd (gals)
MW-1 4 75 73 10 est. 51 - 75 74
MW-2 2 80 71 7.25 55 - 80 28
MW-3 2 80 74 7.25 54 - 80 29
MW-4 2 80 71 7.25 55 - 80 28
MW-5 2 80 76 8.0 57 - 80 30.5
5856 Granite Hills Drive• Granite Bay, California 95746 Tel.
