Union Street, Stockton, California
Final Report-Soil Reatedlation
1.0 INTRODUCTION
McCain Environmental Services was contacted by Omni Enterprises to aerate 550 yds3
of contaminated soil.
2.0 BACKGROUND
The dirt involved in the aeration came from the excavation at 425 N. Union Street, the
Union.Ice plant. Under County agreement by the Environmental Health Department
and Union Ice, the dirt was tested(please see attached results), and transported to
another Union Ice facility on Weber Street, The reason that the dirt was transferred
was that the Union Street facility had been sold to Arctic Ice and occupancy was
needed, and there was no room for treatment at the 425 Union Street address.
Upon transfer of the contaminated soil, it was re-stockpiled and covered with 6 mil
poly.
An aeration permit was applied for and issued by the San Joaquin Air Pollution Control
Board. Due to the levels of contamination found, a 100 yds3/day restriction was
placed upon this soil. The first 3 weeks of treatment was aeration only to release the
lighter fractions into the atmosphere. The remaining treatment time was devoted to
y bioremediating the heavier fractions.
3.0 TREATMENT
Treatment of this soil commenced on May 31, 1990. Tillage was maintained on a bi-
weekly level until August 30, 1990. A sprinkler system was installed with an
-------------------._.....---------------.-.----automatic-Eimer-to-maintain moisture-for-dust control;and-soil-conditions --- - —
Fertilizer was added, 15-15-15, to enhance microbial growth. Moisture conditions
were maintained at 50% levels, during the treatment process.
o..
