1 <br /> Union Ice Company <br />' 425 North Union Street, Stockton, California <br /> Phase II Additional Site Assessment <br />' Installation of Monitoring Wells and <br /> Quarterly Groundwater Report (July, 1993) <br /> 1 <br /> 1 <br /> 1.0 Project Identification <br /> This assessment has been conducted to install additional mora <br /> to.-rig wells to 1) further <br /> define the lateral and vertical extent of sort and/or groundwater contamination, and 2) to <br />' determine the groundwater gradient at this site <br /> 2.0 Site Description and History <br /> Work at the site was initiated in August, 1989, when four (4) underground storage tanks <br /> were located on the property These were designated Tanks # I through # 4 Tanks #I <br /> and #2 were 10,000 gallon fuel tanks that had been filled with water by Union Ice <br /> sometime in the past Tank #3 was a 500 gallon tank that had contained kerosene or fuel <br /> oil or diesel fuel Tank#4 was a 250 gallon tank that contained waste oil <br /> In September of 1989, these tanks were removed by SEMCO, under permit, and with the <br /> direction of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division personnel, and <br /> disposed of according to law <br /> After the tanks were removed, soil samples were taken from beneath all of the tanks It <br /> was found that Tanks #1 and #2 had not leaked, however, Tank #4 had either leaked, or <br /> had been overfilled A soil sample taken approximately five (5) feet below the bottom of <br /> Tank #4 showed "non detect", indicating that the contamination was limited in extent <br /> Tank #3 had also leaked and a proposal was submitted to the San Joaquin County Health <br /> r Department to excavate the contaminated soil This proposal was accepted and the soil <br /> 1 was excavated between January 18 and 24, 1990 Approximately 550 cubic yards of soil <br /> which resulted from this work was taken to the Union Ice facility at 1320 W Weber <br /> Avenue, Stockton, and remediated at that site This assessment at the Union Street <br /> 6I facility was carried out during the period of January 13 through the 21st , 1992 <br /> f <br />
