Section 3 • Surveying and Sampling
Minimum Purge Volume=3*WV;
Purging will continue until both three well volumes have been removed and the monitored field
parameters pH, temperature, and conductivity vary by less than 10% of the previous well volume
recording. It is possible that the well may run dry prior to purging three well volumes or before
the field parameters pH, temperature, or conductivity have stabilized. If this occurs, samples will
be collected as described below in Section 3.5. More detailed groundwater monitoring protocols
are provided in Appendix A. Additionally, an example of a field data sheet, which should be
kept for each monitoring location and monitoring event conducted, is provided as Appendix B of
this report.
3.4 SURFACE WATER MONITORING
In addition to groundwater monitoring, surface water monitoring is temporarily proposed to
determine potential sources of recharge. Grab samples of Stanislaus River water collected near
the WWTF, South San Joaquin Irrigation District canal water and/or storm water used for
recharge near the facility, and effluent will be assessed for the parameters identified in Table 3-1
for a minimum of two years (eight quarters). These samples shall be collected and reported on a
quarterly basis. Figure 1 illustrates the proposed surface water sampling locations.
3.5 GROUNDWATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
Groundwater samples will be collected at a minimum of 48 hours or longer after the completion
of well development activities and obtained immediately following well purging, as described
above in Section 3.3.2. In the event the well pumps or bails dry during purging, water levels will
be allowed to recover for a maximum of 24 hours. Samples will then be collected directly from
the well following recovery with no additional purging necessary. All collected water samples
will be submitted to a California certified laboratory for analysis of the constituents identified in
Table 3-1 according to appropriate analytical methods. All samples required for metals analysis
will first be filtered through a maximum effective pore diameter of 0.45 microns prior to nitric
acid preservation.
April 2007 City of Ripon Wastewater Treatment Facility
3-2 Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Workplan
