VVZ1 INC
Abandonment of Cistern Irrigation Well
The former idle agriculture well that was associated with the cistern well was abandoned
on August 22, 1996 in accordance with San Joaquin County Public Health Service
Environmental Health Division well ordinances under Permit #010190. All material
associated with the cistern well was removed and a ramp was placed on the west side of
the cistern to allow access by equipment and p rsonnel. The well was abandoned by
placement of bentonite chips from total depth of the wellbore to three feet above the water
table which is located at 73.5 feet below ground surface. Neat cement with a grout mix
was then placed in the wellbore to the top of the casing which was located at a depth of
22 feet below ground surface. The cistern remnE nts and excavation was then backfilled
with clean native soil.
Proposed Abandonment of Other Wells
We propose to abandon the other wells by the following method:
(1) Remove all pumps and downhole equipment;
(2) Sound wells for total depth;
(3) Place sand grout at bottom of ea h well with tremy tool until wellbore is
completely filled to within five feet cf ground surface;
(4) Cut casing of wellbore at five feet be ow ground surface and backfill area of
former well casing;
(5) All abandonment activity will be supervised by a certified engineering
geologist.
We propose to conduct the abandonment of the of er three wells within the next few days I
if this plan is acceptable to you. Please advise us as soon as possible.
Very trul v yours,
Stephen G. Muir
Manager, Geotechnical Services
SGM/er
Enclosure
08220010.012 2
