1 INC
analysis of suspected constituents of concern according to the Tri-Regional Board
' Guidelines Other test methods may be designated by PHSEHD, such as MTBE, as
appropriate These analyses will be performed by a California state certified analytical
' laboratory
TASK 2. VADOSE ZONE SITE ASSESSMENT AND INTERIM REMEDIAL ACTION
1
Task 2 is designed to complete a vadose zone site assessment and interim remedial action
' at the site The hydrocarbon contamination will be characterized and the vertical and
horizontal extent will be mapped jointly by overexcavation of the core area of the
' contaminated soil and if necessary, by additional soil borings The decision to utilize either
additional soil borings or exploratory excavation will be made after the highly contaminated
' soil immediately below and adjacent to the former location of Tank 1 has been removed
Task 2 1 Exploratory Excavation
' The objective of removing the highly contaminated portion of the hydrocarbon contaminated
soil is to (1) remove entirely or at least the vast majority of the soil volume that is the source
of potential groundwater contamination, and (2) complete necessary soil remediation to
' extent that is practical and economic prior to the property being redeveloped and a building
potentially placed over the former UST site
' It is anticipated that approximately 2 200 to 3
p pP y ,000 cubic yards of clean and hydrocarbon
' contaminated soil will be removed from the subsurface from the excavation An estimated
1,500 cubic yards of hydrocarbon contaminated soil will be removed immediately under and
' adjacent to the former UST The volume of hydrocarbon contaminated soil that will be
removed from the excavation may be greater and will depend on the location and
' concentrations of hydrocarbon contaminated soil encountered
' 08220010 005 g
_1
