CENTRAL VALLEAREGIONAL WATER QUALIT'l k_'ONTROL BOARD
INSPECTION REPORT
DATE PREPARED: 4 May 2007
DISCHARGER: Musco Family Olive Company and the Studley Company
LOCATION AND COUNTY: Wastewater Treatment and Land Disposal Facility
San Joaquin County
CONTACT(S): Ben Hall (Director of Environmental Services and Programs)
Kelly Hegman (Technical Specialist)
INSPECTION DATE: 6 April 2007
INSPECTED BY: Melissa Hall
ACCOMPANIED BY: Nathan Evenson (Regional Water Board)
Ben Hall (Musco)
Kelly Hegman (Musco)
INTRODUCTION:
The Musco Family Olive Company and the Studley Company (Musco) own and operate the Musco
olive processing facility and its wastewater treatment and land disposal facility (facility). The
treatment system at this plant consists of flow equalization and mixing in a million-gallon (MG)
pond and aeration and storage in an 84-MG reservoir. Treated wastewater is disposed of by spray
irrigation. An inspection of this facility was conducted to sample tailwater from the land application
areas and wastewater stored in the 84-MG reservoir.
OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS:
Nathan Evenson and I arrived at the Musco facility at approximately 10:00 a.m. and introduced
ourselves to Kelly Hegman. The weather was mild, windy, and dry.
Nathan and I collected samples of
wastewater in the 84-million gallon reservoir
-- from the upper 1-2 feet of water from the
location shown in Figure 1. Kelly explained
that process wastewater enters the 84-
million gallon reservoir from near the base
and that wastewater used for irrigation in the
land application areas is taken from the
upper few feet of the reservoir. Reservoir
samples were analyzed for biochemical
oxygen demand (BOD), total and fixed
f° dissolved solids, and various inorganics and
pesticides. The analytical results are
X47 attached.
Figure ]—Reservoir Sampling Location
Approved: io: oaiarz
w+somHALue INWaxogWWWr Wv alr gRpQW70406 We
