1
Musco Olive Products
- 2 - 19 April 2002
ro
information on the peak processing time of year. The report shall present a plan to address the
additional employee wastewater generation.
• Review of the calculations on the system capacity contained some items that may be errors. For
example, in the maximum capacity of the existing system the soil factor selected was 0.225 which is
applicable for silt and/or sandy clay loam. Descriptions of the soil type presented elsewhere in the
- -
-report describe the soil as-clay loam-or clay-and the clay nature of the soil is partially relieduponto
prevent surface applied wastewater from percolating into the leach line trenches. The correct soil
factor for the site is likely 0.250 which is applicable for clay and/or peat.
• The report states that San Joaquin County Department of Environmental Health designed the septic
system to serve 196 people. NOA preformed a"back calculation"to show that the system can
actually handle the waste from 287 people. Please have San Joaquin County review the back
calculation and provide information as to whether the agency agrees that the existing system is an
appropriate size for the current number of people at the facility.
• Because two septic tanks in series are used for settling the solids in the wastewater, more frequent
septic tank pump outs may be advisable. The report did not describe the frequency the tanks are
pumped and/or inspected.
As submitted the report is incomplete, Musco Olive Products shall address the items listed above and
resubmit the domestic wastewater disposal system report by 30 May 2002. Please note that primary
responsibility for oversight of the domestic wastewater system will remain with the San Joaquin County
Department of Environmental Health. If you have any questions about the comments provided, please
telephone me at (916) 255-3116.
TIMOTHY R.
