. . 1
Messrs.Hall and Musco - 4 - ecber 2002
must be purged after each sampling event as required by the MRP that states, "After collection of
percolate samples, the lysimeters shall be purged dry."
• Section 3.5.3 describes offsite well sampling at 26933 South Hansen Road and states depth to
groundwater measurements will be collected if possible. Collecting depth to groundwater
measurements from this well could contaminate the well with harmful bacteria. Do not collect depth
to groundwater measurements or open the sanitary seal on the well due to the potential for well
contamination. You will note that collection of depth to groundwater measurements is not included
in the Regional Groundwater Monitoring section of the MRP.
• Section 3.6.1 describes laboratory analysis of samples for radioisotope analysis. As previously
described, the basis for selection of the groundwater monitoring wells is inadequately described.
• Section 3.6.3 describes the offsite well analysis. The list of analytes is incomplete, please add the
following analytes that are required by the MRP: chloride, sulfate, boron, and ammonia.
• Section 4 describes the anticipated schedule and lists the pan lysimeter installation as to be
determined. It is noted that the lysimeters shall be installed by 1 May 2003.
• Section 3.6.4 does not contain information on the filter pore size or filter methods. Please provide
information on the filter equipment, filter pore size, and filter procedures for both the field filtering
and the lab filtering. You may elect to run duplicate samples (one filtered, one not filtered)to
determine the effect of filtering samples if you desire.
By 6 January 2003,please submit an addendum that addresses these issues. If you have any questions
regarding this workplan review, please telephone me at(916) 255-3116.
TIMOTHY R.
