Kennedy,Uenks Consultants
Section 2: Preliminary Work Plan
This section presents the proposed Preliminary Work Plan.
2.1 Additional Monitoring Wells
Two additional groundwater monitoring wells will be installed in the vicinity of existing
Well MW-1 (Figure 2). It is anticipated that both of these wells will be screened in the same
shallow groundwater zone as Well MW-1.
One monitoring well, Well MW-30, will be installed south of the Musco land application areas
(LAA) to monitor shallow groundwater offsite and upgradient of Well MW-1. This location will
provide an assessment of shallow groundwater quality entering the southern portion of the Site.
One soil boring will be advanced approximately 10 to 20 feet to the west of Well MW-1.
Depending upon observations during installation of Well MW-30, this boring may or may not be
converted to a monitoring well. This location is intended to address two questions. First, results
from this additional monitoring location would be used to obtain a detailed soil boring log for
verification of the visual log previously prepared for Well MW-1. Second, if it is determined that
Well MWA is no longer adequate for monitoring, Well MWAC could serve as a replacement
monitoring well.
Well MW-1 Condition Assessment. Simultaneous with drilling, an inspection will be made of
the areas surrounding Well MW-1 and the area immediately to the south. Conditions such as
surface water accumulation and runoff, soil cracking, animal wastes, and lush vegetation will be
noted because these conditions may indicate water and nitrogen sources that could influence
shallow groundwater quality. In addition, the integrity of the surface seal at Well MW-1 will be
visually assessed.
2.2 Field Activities
The following field activities will be conducted: drilling and installing the soil borings and
monitoring wells, developing the wells, and collecting groundwater samples from monitoring
wells for laboratory analysis.
2.2.1 Pre-Field Activities
The following pre-field activities will be conducted prior to initiating fieldwork at the Site:
• Update the site-specific Health and Safety Plan.
• Complete access negotiations for installation and sampling of offsite monitoring wells.
• Obtain well installation permits from the San Joaquin County EHD.
• Select and mark the specific locations for the new monitoring wells.
Preliminary Work Plan for Evaluation of Nitrogen in Groundwater Page 3
Musco Family Olive Company, Tracy, California
p:Yeyewgbdminyobb2'AN104.00nuemoNeWBrepwbNRagm xrt phUdd.
