4. HAZARDOUS WASTE GENERATOR TRAINING REQUIREMENTS <br /> Improper waste handling could result in exposing employees to hazardous <br /> wastes . In addition improper disposal of hazardous waste could result in <br /> contamination of soil and water, and ultimately fines and enforcement from <br /> the regulatory agencies . <br /> The best way to prevent generating unnecessary waste and to avoid <br /> problems relating to hazardous waste is to thoroughly train employees on <br /> how to perform their job duties safely and properly . This knowledge can <br /> lead to improved efficiency and reduced waste . Good training may also <br /> enable employees to identify ways to improve performance and processes . <br /> It is not only a good idea to teach employees how to handle hazardous waste <br /> correctly and how to respond to emergencies, it is the law <br /> (40 CFR 262 . 34 ( d ) (5) (iii) , 22 CCR 66265 . 16, 22 CCR 66273 ) . <br /> 4. 1 . SQG TRAINING REQUIREMENTS <br /> SQGs must ensure that all employees are thoroughly familiar with proper <br /> waste handling and emergency procedures, relevant to their responsibilities <br /> during normal facility operations and emergencies as part of their required <br /> on site job training . Training records on current personnel must be <br /> maintained until the closure of the facility . Records on former employees <br /> must be maintained for at least three years from the date the employee last <br /> worked at the store . <br /> 4. 2 . LQG TRAINING REQUIREMENTS <br /> LQGs must ensure that employees receive initial hazardous waste training <br /> within 6 months of receiving and / or changing a job assignment involving <br /> the management of hazardous waste . <br /> Specifically, LQGs must ensure that personnel receive classroom or onAhe- <br /> job training on handling, storage, and emergency response considerations of <br /> managing hazardous waste . At a minimum, the training program must be <br /> designed to ensure that facility personnel are able to respond effectively to <br /> emergencies by familiarizing them with emergency procedures, emergency <br /> equipment, and emergency systems, including, where applicable : <br /> CGA 20 MAY 2015 <br />
