• Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
The two-stage RO process was simulated using proprietary software to evaluate inorganic
removal, individual stage water recovery, and combined permeate and reject water quality.
Based on the model, the combined permeate is anticipated to contain less than 10 mg/I of BOD
' and approximately 900 to 1,100 mg/I of inorganic dissolved solids, comprised primarily of
bicarbonate (470 mg/1), sodium (240 mg/1), and chloride (110 mg/1) ions. The permeate will be
introduced into the 84-MG reservoir and blended with the other process wastewater streams.
' The composite of streams routed directly to the reservoir was estimated to have an inorganic
dissolved solids content of approximately 980 mg/I, including bicarbonate (490 mg/1), sodium
(280 mg/1), and chloride (210 mg/1).
The reclaimed water for offsite usage will be pumped from the Musco's 84-MG storage
reservoir. The quality of water stored in the 84-MG reservoir, representing a combination of the
' treated effluent stream and the streams routed directly to reservoir storage, is anticipated to
have a total BOD content in the range of 800 to 900 mg/I prior to aeration in the reservoir and a
dissolved inorganic solids content in the range of 900 to 1,100 mg/l. Projected characteristics of
the influent to the storage reservoir, based on modeling estimates, are shown in Table 2.
Contributions from stormwater would provide addition of water containing very little dissolved
solids, resulting in lower concentrations of organic and inorganic dissolved solids.
' Aeration in the reservoir currently appears capable of achieving dissolved oxygen
concentrations of 2 mg/I or greater in the upper layers, depending upon residence time and
other factors. BOD levels have been reduced to approximately 50 mg/I as a result of aerated
' storage conditions. Pretreatment with MBR and RO will reduce incoming organic content and
likely further reduce the achievable BOD concentrations in the reservoir.
' The appropriate level of organic matter in the reclaimed water offsite irrigation is in the range of
40 to 50 mg/1 of BOD based on recent permits issued by the RWQCB for wineries performing
general onsite irrigation. BOD levels in this range can require management of odor generation in
the water prior to irrigation. If necessary, additional engineering measures, such as the addition
' of peroxide or filtration, may be implemented to reduce BOD levels in the water prior to entering
the piping system to convey the reclaimed water offsite.
' Musco is currently evaluating the relative proportion of soluble and filterable organic material in
the water stored in the 84-MG reservoir. If a substantial fraction of the total BOD is associated
with suspended material, filtration prior to conveyance would be indicated as the technology to
reduce the residual BOD concentration further.
Reclamation Report, Page 12
' Musco Family Olive Company
gl,gm,pixJmin`&02020104.On_rrcsceolirre'3repaL4eclamauon Tt"=reGE x%,,repos WME.12,M.da
